Competent institutions attended a second meeting in order to submit their proposals and positions to further refine the wording of the draft Ordinance on the identification, sustainable management and control of dredging depots. The draft Ordinance, developed by the Bulgarian Port Infrastructure Company sparked a fruitful and in-depth discussion between representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Ministry of Environment and Waters, the Bulgarian Navy, the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration”, “Marine Antipollution Enterprises ” JSC and others on 19 January 2023 in Sofia.
The Director of the Infrastructure, Water Area and Property Directorate at the BPI Co., Eng. Natasha Tseneva and the Director of the Project Management Directorate at BPI Co. Ms Anna Natova presented the wording of the draft Ordinance, reflecting the first remarks and comments from the institutions. The first working meeting with the stakeholders to discuss the draft Ordinance was held on 17 May 2022 in Sofia.
The document was elaborated within the framework of the project “Demonstration of a pilot green infrastructure as a win-win solution for biodiversity and development in Lake Varna.” – LIFE for Lake Varna in compliance with Bulgarian and European legislation and applicable international law. The aim is to regulate the conditions and procedure for the designation of dredging depots in Bulgarian seaports, the sustainable management during dredging and the control of the designated depots. At present, the national legislation does not contain specific requirements or criteria to be applied for the management of dredged material.
